The Mighty Baobab Tree. The Tree of Life. King of Superfruits.
Used for thousands of years for a wide range of remedies and conditions.

But today, science is fast catching up with why the Baobab has so many uses and it's various forms are fast being included into medicine and the beauty industry.

Looking after the Baobab Tree
Today there is concern about the future conservation of Baobab, since it's products are beginning to make a huge splash in beauty product sales worldwide. There is the concern that the bark is stripped and the leaves are all taken, so then the tree no longer can survive. And that even if the fruits are all taken, then that breaks the cycle of regeneration.
BAO says, yes there is a definite concern that is happening in some areas related to some suppliers.
There is a reforestation programme to grow crops of small Baobab trees to harvest the leaves at a more safe height and at sustainable quantities.
In reality, our Baobab programme preserves this mighty tree to ensure it's generation within the areas we operate in.

As one of the 12 original Pureora Forest tree protesters from 1978 that stopped an entire forest from being wiped out, tree conservation is a paramount concern.
Infact, what many don't realise is that deforestation in Africa as well as in Asia and South America is responsible for causing displacement of families, just like terrorism does.
So we only use one supplier with an ethical programme for Baobab conservation in the community.

Having said all that, Baobab does have it's natural predators, one being the elephant who sometimes eats the bark. Villagers are also known to sometimes use the bark for medicinal purposes and although baobab's can often be found to survive for centuries after several bark attacks, it's best to discourage these practices.

Thankfully, the baobab wood is useless for construction as it's too fibrous. But I hear villagers can sometimes cut them down for firewood where there is no ethical harvesting programme in that area.

Later on, we will add a lot more about this interesting tree.
